Laxey Wheel and Mines
The great Laxey Wheel, nicknamed 'Lady Isabella' after a Lieutenant Governor's wife, has the distinction of being the largest surviving water pump wheel of its type. Over 600 miners who extracted large amounts of zinc ore once worked the mines. The mines were closed in 1929, but visitors can explore for approximately 40 feet. Open April to October.
